Hey all, I’m back with a look at a series from this past Fall for this week’s Anime Sunday. It’s my “Eminence in Shadow” Episode 01 impressions.

Plot: This first episode is an introduction to the main character who is a boy named Minoru Kageno (though his first name does change to Cid when he ends up reborn in an alternate world). It also details his prior life in which he was a school student who fantasized of being a kind of vigilante type character, and he did manage to rescue a classmate of his from kidnappers. But the episode is very cringe inducing when the main character displays Chuuni behaviors (which is a Japanese term meaning children in the second year of middle school who may exhibit and possess delusional behaviors and beliefs), so this series might not be for everyone. I personally didn’t enjoy this episode all that much because of that, but others might find it hilarious.

Characters: As this episode mostly deals with Cid’s prior life as Minoru before being reincarnated into an alternate world, the characters we get introduced to aren’t that great, but they do help to shape him as to who he is.

Art: The art is very good, being done by Studio Nexus.

Music: The music fits the series, and that’s about it.

Overall: For some, they might enjoy the over-the-top misunderstandings and the Chuuni behaviors of the main character, but I personally didn’t with this episode.

For those who like: Reincarnation, Fantasy, Drama, and Action.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
