Odyssey – Unreal Engine Powered 2D Animation Software

Odyssey is a 2D animation software that just released version 1.0. This interesting 2D animation tool is built on top of Unreal Engine, in that it is a built upon the Unreal Engine foundation using a branch of the UE source code. Epic Games are supportive of this project, as they issued the developer Praxnios and Epic Mega Grant.

Odyssey is described as:

Odyssey is a 2d traditional animation software, developed by Praxinos and based on the real-time 3d software Unreal Engine. It is a software designed for 2d artists and productions that need the spontaneity of drawing combined with the versatility of 3d. Odyssey is the result of 5 years of development that started in early 2019 with the prototypes ILIAD (painting plugin), ULIS (graphic library) and EPOS (storyboard & layout plugin).

Key features include:

STAY IN YOUR COMFORT ZONE!

Odyssey is entirely designed for 2D artists who know very few (if anything) about 3D software. Enjoy a simple -but effective- interface with a canvas, a timeline and a a whole host of great brushes to work in the best possible conditions.

VECTOR VS BITMAP: WHY WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

Combine vector and bitmap for incredible results, thanks to the ingenuity of the many vector tools (warp grid, line thickness, smart eraser, palettes of indexed colors…) and the fantastic – almost natural – rendering of our 258 raster brushes included in Odyssey.

2D INFINITY AND BEYOND!

Need to explore more dimensions? You can easily use your 2D artworks and animations in a 3D environment thanks to a simple drag and drop! You even can edit them directly from the 3D environment.

STORYBOARDING, NOT STORY BORING!

Enjoy the storyboarding module to combine your beautiful drawings with 3D environments. Discover the freedom to easily move cameras and objects anywhere to create stunning and effective animatics.

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH UE

Based on the most powerful engine in the world, Odyssey allows you to enjoy a slew of features, from lighting to post-process volumes, to change the composition of your 2D/3D scenes.

SOURCE CONTROL & TEAM WORK

Odyssey projects exactly have the same structure as Unreal Engine’s: you can add assets from the Marketplace or migrate content from a project to another! You can even combine Odyssey with source control solutions like Git or Perforce.
