Hey all, I’m back with another Anime Sunday with this week being a look at one of the past spring season’s shows. It’s my “Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts” Episode 01 Impressions.

Plot: This first episode introduces its world pretty well. And while it’s not a very happy world, it is interesting. Every so often the humans send to the beasts a young woman to serve as a human sacrifice for the Beast King to eat, which sounds horrific but most of my veteran readers can probably guess that’s not exactly what happens. Suffice it to say, by the end of the episode the truth is revealed, and we get to see the other side of the equation. It isn’t exactly subtle, but it is well done.

Characters: Frankly I really enjoyed this first episode because it shows off the characters of the king and the young woman named Sariphi so well. The rest of the characters are just as good for the most part, though some are a bit annoying for obvious reasons.

Art: The art is pretty well done, and while not reaching my gold standard of ufotable quality, it easily towers over many other series.

Music: The music fits the show perfectly, although it’s not exactly memorable.

Overall: A very good first episode in a pretty great fantasy setting.

For those who like: Fantasy, Romance, Drama, Action, Good Plot, Great Characters, and Excellent Art.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
