1. Baldur’s Gate 3 endings

The game developers made a brave promise – Baldur’s Gate 3 offers 17,000 possible ending variations! Although confirming or dismissing this statement at this stage is impossible, it certainly sounds intriguing. Another fact backing up this is 174 hours o cut scenes included in the gameplay.

Some might say it isn’t enough to cover almost 100 times more endings. Others argue that it is more than possible with sound engineering backing up the statement with some math. Cut scenes are combined to maximize the potential paths the story can take the player.

One thing, however, is for sure. Baldur’s Gate 3 company, Larian Studios, presented the possibilities of storytelling in role-playing games, and it will never be the same!

2. The game was released before the official date

As mentioned, the game development was six years long with much postponement due to various circumstances. However, one thing came as a (big) surprise – the game was released one month before the original release date.

Baldur’s Gate 3 planned release was the 3rd of September, 2023.
Baldur’s Gate 3 was released on the 3rd of August, 2023.

Why this sudden shift?
Well, above all reasons, we found out that competition was the key. Bethesda, a Microsoft-owned company, announced they would release Starfield (another major RPG game for 2023) the same week the BG3 planned release was. This probably pushed Larian Studios to step out from the underdog position and bravely introduce their secret weapon.

If we judge based on the initial days since the release, Larian Studios made a great move!

💡 Another curiosity, backing up the presented reasoning, is that the release date of Baldur’s Gate 3 for PS5 stayed is still the 6th of September. Starfield only comes on PC and Xbox!

3. Almost three years between early access and release

Although we called Baldur’s Gate 3 a secret weapon, its blueprint was visible years ago! BG3 has been available since October 2020 in the early access mode. This served two primary purposes. The first obvious step was gathering gamers’ feedback and polishing the game before the main release.

However, there was something more! Larian Studio decided on this odd move to keep the company and the game development running. We will discuss this further, but it’s essential to know that more than 2.5 million players purchased the game at the early stage.

4. Promising reviews are coming in

Another BG3 fact is that many popular game reviewers are busy playing it. The verdict is far from the final, but things look good for the latest Baldur’s Gate series game. As we already explained, the game is super large, and getting any meaningful reviews and, more importantly, ratings will take time.

A popular game reviewer, Jeremy Penter, known as ACG, admitted to spending 20+ hours playing the game at one go. He left A short comment on Twitter: “BG3 is an amazing game.

5. (Sub)classes should be chosen wisely

With a choice of 12 Classes and 46 Subclasses, one can easily get lost on which direction to take. The choice should be wise, but at the same time, without much overthinking. You should decide based on the fighting style you want throughout the story.

Baldur’s Gate 3 classes are:

  • Barbarian
  • Bard
  • Cleric
  • Druid
  • Fighter
  • Monk
  • Paladin
  • Ranger
  • Rogue
  • Sorcerer
  • Warlock
  • Wizard

💡 The excellent news is that Baldur’s Gate 3 classes are well-balanced, and there is no right or wrong choice while keeping the differences in the fighting style in mind.

6. A 2023 game with no in-game purchases?!

One of the most surprising facts about Baldur’s Gate 3 is that no in-game purchases are available. A decade ago, this would be perfectly normal. However, in 2023 this is relatively unorthodox.

While most AAA titles come with many monetization methods that enhance visuals and give more opportunities, gameplay hours, and advantages, Larian decided to take another path.

7. BG3 is in the top 5 most-played games on Steam

Speaking about purchases, another astonishing BG3 fact is that today it found its spot in the top 5 most played games on Steam as the only game that isn’t free-to-play! Also, BG3 was second, only behind CS: GO, which has dominated this list for some time.

We won’t be surprised to see Baldur’s Gate 3 breaking other records in the genre or the whole gaming industry!

8. Larian CEO is quite a character

The person behind this enormous success is Swen Vincke, CEO of Larian. What differentiates him and the company he founded nearly three decades ago is the experience they deliver. As a passionate gamer of the previous generation, he can recognize quality in the gameplay.

Compared to the companies ruling the video game industry, Larian, and Swen Vincke are led by passion and a straightforward decision-making system rather than strict corporate policies.

We must be honest and say that Larian is an employer with more than 450 employees worldwide, so creating such an atmosphere took plenty of effort. Way to go, Mr. Vincke!

We can do things in service of the games we’re making.

9. A focused and dedicated game company

Although it is hard to put it in the category of BG3 facts, the public opinion is that decision-makers in Larian are highly focused and dedicated. This is proven by the fact that Baldur’s Gate 3 is the first release from Larian Studios since 2017 when Divinity: Original Sin II was made public.

10. Larian was struggling a decade ago

Not everything was smooth for Baldur’s Gate 3 company (Larian Studios). The CEO admitted that the company faced severe financial issues and even had trouble paying the employees.

This seriously endangered ongoing projects until the success of the Divinity series helped this Belgian company stay on track. More than 500.000 players purchased Divinity: Original Sin allowing breathing space for Larian management and employees.

💡 Now, it’s a great moment to praise all of the gamers who recognized the quality of the Divinity series. Without it, it’s questionable if we would have a spectacle like Baldur’s Gate 3.
