Evercade units stolen in robbery
Console maker Blaze Entertainment says lorry carrying stock was subject of "possible organised attack"
Retro console Evercade and its creator Blaze Entertainment were the subjects of a robbery on December 6, which saw an amount of stock stolen from the company.
In a blog post, the firm said that a lorry carrying limited edition units of the Evercade EXP was the subject of a suspected "targeted, possible organised attack."
While the exact scale and details of the event are unclear, Eurogamer reports that over £500,000 worth of hardware was taken.
The units were en route to a Funstock warehouse in the UK, the retailer through which the limited edition Evercade console was being sold. Blaze Entertainment confirmed that EU stock arrived safely at the Funhouse's European warehouse.
No one was hurt during the ordeal, but stock due to be sent out to customers across the UK, USA and rest of world is affected.
"We at Blaze are hugely frustrated and angry that this has occurred, and with these products so close to release the timing could not be worse," said Andrew Byatt, CEO of Blaze Entertainment. "We have shared all the information, including evidence of theft, with the UK Police and we await news of their investigations."
Byatt said that the company is "hopeful of recovering the stock," and that it has started production on replacements to be sent out to customers as soon as possible.
