Steps to Make a Simple Game in Unity

GameDev.Net

Ah, Flappy Bird – the game that had us all glued to our screens, guiding that little bird through pipes, only to see it hilariously face-plant “ BoNk ” one second later. Good times, right? Now, if you’re diving into game development, Flappy Bird is basically the ‘ hello world ‘ of the gaming universe. Critique of MUDs, RPGs, DnD, MMORPGs, and immersive interactive adventures

GameDev.Net

In this thread, I want to discuss my view on MUDs, RPGs, DnD, and MMORPGs, and how much each iteration departs from the original goal of having an immersive, interactive (and collective) adventure. Granted, the genres each developed their own directions and strong and weak points, but I think it is fair to say it all started out with that goal initially.

Weird issue retrieving bits from an integer.

GameDev.Net

Another maze question, although this is more practical than the last. I'm storing both the cell data and visited cell bit flags in separate packed 64-bit integers. The cell data consists of 4 bits per cell, so I can store 16 per integer, and that is working fine. However, the visited array stores a single bit per cell and while I can set the bits just fine, retrieving them doesn't quite work and I am stumped.

What happens to game IPs from companies that no longer exist? For example, a game series from a studio that closed in the 2000s. Can another studio take over that IP and relaunch the game, or is the game forever in the limbo?

Ask a Game Dev

There's usually somebody who owns that IP. When a company goes bankrupt and shuts down, the company goes into the bankruptcy liquidation. The court appoints a trustee that's put in charge of selling off all of the company's assets to pay off as much of the company's debts as possible. This means physical things like office furniture, computers, kitchen equipment, unsold inventory, etc. and it also means virtual things like intellectual property and technology rights.
