Adaptive Music System Showcase | HULLRUSH

GameDev.Net

Hey everyone! I've just finished a small, short adaptive music system. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it, and I'd appreciate if you gave it a listen! The whole thing is very simply controlled by the “musicIntensity” parameter at the top left (where my cursor is). When that's changed, the music switches to the given intensity at the end of every 2-4 measures, depending on the starting point and the destination.

C++ - Putting the entire game instance in a heap object?

GameDev.Net

Is it okay to put the entire game instance into an object on the heap in C++? Like this: int main() { GameInstance* inst = new GameInstance; GameInstance->Run() delete GameInstance; return 0; } I’ve seen this done about twice now but I’m not sure if it’s a good practice, good idea or how it’s usually done for a robust or production scenario.

Question: Should I make a Minecraft-inspired game in 3D or 2D?

GameDev.Net

Hi everyone, I’m planning to develop a game inspired by Minecraft—not a direct clone, just something with a similar feel. My question is: would it be better to make it in 3D, like the original Minecraft, or in 2D, like Minicraft (the game Notch made for Ludum Dare 22)? I want to understand which option is more accepted in the market nowadays and which one has a better chance of becoming popular.

The Role of Automation in Modern Game QA Testing

Whether it’s validating multi-platform stability, balancing monetization systems, or ensuring glitch-free online performance, modern Game QA now d

Let me tell you a completely unrelated story to the question you asked me. My six-year-old niece desperately wants a talking pet unicorn with a rainbow mane named Elsa to be her best friend. I don't think she's ever going to get a pet unicorn that meets her standards, but that fact doesn't stop her from wanting it. She's also likely to yell mean things at anyone who tells her that unicorns aren't real.
