Is abstracting based on identity wrong?

I am very bad at creating abstractions, and as I read more into the topic, I think my problem is that I create abstractions based on the identity or concept, which I don't think is the correct thought process? For example, in my little game engine project, I have various asset types: Mesh, Texture, Shader, etc., as well as asset loaders: MeshLoader, TextureLoader, etc.
