Hogwarts Legacy: How to Get Mandrake

If you’re a fan of Harry Potter, you already know what Mandrake is. It’s a plant with a baby-like root that screams loudly when uprooted. Its screams are so loud that they incapacitate (or even kill) anyone unfortunate enough to hear it.

Here’s how to get a Mandrake in Hogwarts Legacy:

  1. Buy A Mandrake
  2. Grow A Mandrake
  3. Find A Mandrake

How To Get A Mandrake

In Hogwarts Legacy, a Mandrake can be a part of your wizarding arsenal as you explore the world and fight Dark Wizards and other dangerous creatures. But how in the world do you acquire one?

Well, there are essentially three ways you can get your hands on a Mandrake, as you will see below:

Buy Them

The simplest way to obtain Mandrakes is to buy them (if you have the Galleons to spend, that is). The most reliable vendor you can buy Mandrake from is Dogweed and Deathcap in Hogsmeade. Each one costs 500 Galleons, so make sure you have enough funds before going there.

If you don’t have enough, there are plenty of ways to make money in Hogwarts.

You’ll find the shop located on the outskirts of Hogsmeade Village, to the North east. You’ll spot the building a mile off, it looks both ominous and pretty peculiar. It’s sort of set back, at the top of the hill away from other stores and vendors.

Talk to the shop owner to strike up deal to purchase one. You can either but the actual ‘mature’ plant that’ll be ready to use straight away if you get into a fight. Or you can buy seeds, which are a bit more expensive but you can harvest them multiple times.

I cover more about growing them below.

Grow Them

The next, albeit more tedious way to get Mandrakes, is to grow them yourself. But if you’re roleplaying as a Wizard with a green thumb, you will certainly prefer this method.

In a nutshell, you can purchase the seeds you’ll need at Dogweed and Deathcap. Once you’ve got the seeds you can use the potting table in the Herbology classroom or Room of Requirement to grow them.

It’ll take 10 minutes to grow. The seeds can be quite expensive though, they’ll set you back 800 Galleons, but at least you’ll get a good returns on your investment.

Find Them

If you really don’t want to spend a single Galleon on buying or growing Mandrakes, you can opt to find them in the wild. This won’t be as easy as the other two methods mind you, but at least it’ll be free. Mandrakes are found in the Forbidden Forest. Keep in mind though that they don’t grow freely, so you might have to forage around for quite a while before you find some.

How To Use A Mandrake In Battle

Once you do have Mandrakes, you can equip them using the tool wheel and throw one out during heated battles to deal some real stun damage to enemies.

In battle, you can use your Mandrake to deny an area to your enemies. To perform this area denial stun attack, all you need to do (if you’re using a PC) is to simply hold the tab key to select it, and press the tab key to bring it out so it can screech.

This attack is super helpful when you’re surroudned by a large number of enemies at once. Since using your Mandrake will hit almost every hostile that you can see close to you. It can be slightly less powerful against individual targets, since it’s meant for multiple enemies but it still packs a punch.
