Update 1.04 for Android & iOS for Nomads of the Fallen Star

Half Geek

It’s live on Android and should be live today on iOS. I redesigned the touch interface, removing the tooltip toggle function and made tooltips vs actions more streamline by differentiating between a Tap versus Tap & Hold (~0.5s). This avoids the extra step in toggling Info vs Action modes by tapping the [?] icon whenever players wanted tooltips or to do an action.

Sprite Outline Shader in Unity

Febucci

In this “Unity Sprite Outline” tutorial we’ll discover how to create both a “Sprite Innerline” and a “Outer Sprite Outline”. Simply, the Inner Sprite Outline shader is drawn “inside” the sprite, while “Outer” is the opposite. Read more about “Texture’s Texel Size” here. Your browser does not support the video. PS. Oh hey almost three years ago I released a plugin called “ Text Animator for Unity ”, a tool I made/needed for my own games - and Today it is also getting used in other games like “ Cu

WebRTC support, progress report #2

Mircosoft Game Dev

In the last report we introduced WebRTC and the reasons why it's being added to the list of web standards (and thus to Godot). As mentioned there, the WebRTC protocol supports a wide variety of applications: from VoIP, to video streaming, to custom data transfers. The interface that allows you to send custom data is called a data channel and is now exposed in Godot via a new WebRTCDataChannel interface (more on that later).

Future game project: A big & bold space epic

Half Geek

I had two game in mind that I wanted to work on moving forward, a fantasy open world with empire building inspired by Heroes of Might & Magic (3), or a new sci-fi space epic focused on large fleets & empire building. I’ve always loved space theme and sci-fi more than fantasy, but I hesitated to go down that route for the next game due to the many titles in this genre.

WoW 2

Grumpy Gamer

I got an invite to the World of Warcraft Classic Beta. I imagine that's because I've been a paying customer since the night it launched in the early 1900s (I might have the date wrong) and have leveled countless toons. Less than a lot of hardcore players. but more than most. I've never seriously played a Priest before so I started leveling one then realized that when the game goes live they are going to wipe the beta servers and I'll loose all progress.

Game of Thrones: What Went Wrong

Sirlin

SPOILERS (This post is full of lots of spoilers for Game of Thrones.) The internet seems generally disappointed with the final season of Game of Thrones. Yeah, me too, and it’s all about the writing. I’ll get right to the point of what I think went wrong: Daenerys, the Night King, and Arya. The short version: 1) Daenerys had an 8 year arc, a great one actually, but one misstep ruined it.

6 Reasons Why Board Game Development is So Iterative

Brand Game Development

Board game development is notorious for its trial-and-error approach. Experienced designers and developers will tell you that it’s all about iteration. You may create dozens of versions of the same game until you finally find one you’re satisfied with. Everything can be scrapped at a moment’s notice – mechanics, rules, art, and even basic core concepts.

Major update for Visual Shaders in Godot 3.2

Mircosoft Game Dev

With the Godot 3.1 release, the Visual Shader editor was recreated from the ashes of its Godot 2.x ancestor. While usable and packed with visual features, Visual Shaders lacked many features from their Shader (script) big brother. A new update has been prepared for Godot 3.2 to solve this problem. My name is Chaosus, I'm the one of the core contributors of Godot, and I'm gladly presenting this update to our beloved engine.
