Vulkan progress report #1

Mircosoft Game Dev

While the rest of the Godot contributors are focused on finalizing 3.2 for release, I'm almost exclusively dedicating myself to porting the engine to Vulkan, as part of the 4.0 release effort. This is so far an exciting adventure and I'm learning a lot about it. I plan on creating more in-depth technical devblogs on how this work is being done, but will do so at a later time when more of the work is done (and I feel more confident that the approach used in most areas is the right one).

Quit Twitter

" But new evidence shows that the platform may be inflicting harm at an even more basic level. It could be making its users, well, a bit witless. ". I quit Twitter and haven't post or even logged on in over a year. I can safely say I have never been happier. Twitter is a complete dumpster fire that consumes you and everything thing the demon touches.

WebRTC support, progress report #3

Mircosoft Game Dev

In the last two reports we laid out the basis for building a Godot application that uses WebRTC to communicate with other peers. Now, the WebRTC module got an interface to the High Level Multiplayer API , so it can be used as a transport for RPCs/RSETs. The implementation is a full p2p mesh , meaning every player is connected with each other via a "direct" connection, and there is no need for a player to act as a server.

Matchington Mansion - You Won't Believe the Truth

Deconstructor of Fun

We’ve all been talking about Matchington Mansion during the past year. There are several reasons why Matchington Mansion is on our lips: Firstly, it’s because the game is raking in over $15M in net revenues a month. Secondly, it’s because the game was able to challenge Playrix successfully in their own game. After all, there are barely any significant differences between Homescapes and Matchington Mansion.

Dev snapshot: Godot 2.1.6 RC 1

Mircosoft Game Dev

It's been a long time since our previous release in the 2.1 branch! "Wait," I hear you say, "is the 2.1 branch still maintained 3 years after its first release?" The answer is yes, on a "best effort" basis and focusing on release critical and security issues. What we consider "release critical" are issues which prevent people using Godot 2.1.x in production from releasing or updating their game, such as crash issues and adapting to the changing requirement

AFK Arena - Hail to the New King of RPGs

Deconstructor of Fun

Asia is one of the most influential and consequential geos in a game’s overall global success. However there is a persistent stigma: Asian developers struggle in the West and Western developers struggle in Asia. This has gone on for decades, with the two groups being influenced by each other, yet struggling to operate their games successfully across this cultural divide.
