Destiny 2 | Games of the Year 2022

GamesIndustry.biz

Picking a live service title for my 2022 game of the year felt like a bit of a copout, and I'm sure at any other game website, it may be perceived as such. If this piece had to be about a game released this year, I have some solid favourites: God of War: Ragnarok, Citizen Sleeper, and Neon White, to name a few. Alas, tomorrow is my last day at this wonderful website, so I'll do what I want.

14 low-budget, highly successful story games

Game Analytics

One of the reasons why hyper-casual games are so popular is due to how quick and easy they are to make. Simple controls, artwork, and game design make it easy for any developer to pick up. But hyper-casual isn’t the only way to go. There are other ways to build a game on a budget. One way is narrative. We’ve talked a lot about how to add new layers to your games by simply layering in a story.

Fan Collective Unimatrix 47: Star Trek Prodigy’s “Ghost in the Machine” Episode

Game Industry News

HERE THERE BE SPOILERS. Okay, fair enough, Star Trek: Prodigy , we’ve been overdue for a Holodeck Malfunction Episode, but “Ghost in the Machine” feels more like it’s a Halloween episode than the third episode from season one’s end. Still, as we’re getting to know the characters a bit more in the season’s seventeenth episode, especially the side characters, it would be nice to get a fun romp before the end, but that’s not exactly what we get either.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales | Games of the Year 2022

GamesIndustry.biz

I've gone through a lot of Spider-Media this year. In addition to rewatches of Into The Spider-Verse and No Way Home, I've read six volumes of Spider-Gwen, seven volumes of Miles Morales, and a mix of classic and modern Amazing Spider-Man storylines I never got around to in the past. I've also made it partway through a replay of the 2018 Spider-Man game and watched most of (the quietly brilliant and my 2022 earworm ) Spidey & His Amazing Friends.

Fan Collective Unimatrix 47: Star Trek Prodigy’s “Mindwalk” Episode

Game Industry News

HERE THERE BE SPOILERS. Mind-swapping has been with Trek since the first Enterprise , and while “ Turnabout Intruder ” will never, ever be my favorite episode, it does handle the body swapping nicely. I can say the same of “ Mindwalk.” Kate Mulgrew really steals the show as Dal in Janeway’s body, though Brett Grey’s performance is certainly solid. However, “Mindwalk” isn’t about fun and “Freaky Friday” shenanigans.

Microsoft calls FTC unconstitutional

The 37-page response covers numerous arguments Microsoft has already made in public or to other regulators, stating a lack of incentive to make Call of Duty exclusive, a desire to grow its minimal footprint in the mobile gaming space, and painting Sony's protestations as those of a dominant market leader looking to hinder disru

Fan Collective Unimatrix 47: Star Trek Prodigy’s “Preludes” Episode

Game Industry News

HERE THERE BE SPOILERS. While intellectually I knew that the backstories for Rok and Jankom Pog weren’t going to be full of sunshine and rainbows, Prodigy once again startled me with just how dark Rok’s story really was. Jankom’s was more existentially terrifying, but it was no less tragic. In the sixteenth episode of season one, Prodigy doesn’t shy away from the themes it wants to develop, which I knew, but I really wasn’t quite prepared for what “ Preludes ” had in store.

Fan Collective Unimatrix 47: Star Trek Prodigy’s “Supernova, Part 1” Episode

Game Industry News

HERE THERE BE SPOILERS. “ Supernova, Part 1 ” is every bit a penultimate episode, in that it addresses certain trailing plotlines without resolving others. Dal really shines in this episode, both for his resolute determination to do his best for his friends and crew but also for Starfleet, the group that will, eventually, reject him. Fan Collective Unimatrix 47: Star Trek Prodigy’s “Masquerade” Episode

Game Industry News

HERE THERE BE SPOILERS. I have to confess, I wasn’t expecting where Prodigy decided to go with Dal R’El, but I think it works really well, given what Prodigy is all about, thematically speaking. Star Trek has long been a franchise characterized by found family, but Prodigy has made it a little more explicit. Zero finds his collective. Gwyn chooses her own family, and now, Dal must face that his crew is his family in a much more literal sense.
