What’s One Game Mechanic You Think Is Underused — and How Would You Bring It Back?

I've been thinking a lot about mechanics that were awesome in one or two games but somehow never caught on. For example, the Nemesis system in Shadow of Mordor was brilliant but rarely replicated. Or time manipulation in Braid and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time — such great potential, yet not widely adopted. What’s one gameplay mechanic you feel deserves more love?
