Hey all, I’m back with a science fiction comedy film I first saw as a kid for this week’s Movie Monday. It’s Flubber.

Plot: The film is a fairly standard live action Disney film. It’s not super complex or really that good when looking back at it, but it was lots of fun as a kid.  A fun fact that I never realized was that it was a remake of the film The Absent-Minded Professor from 1961.

Casting: Robin Williams is the lead character Philip Brainard and does an outstanding job of it. Frankly I enjoy Williams no matter what he is in, and this is one of his less remembered films.  The rest of the cast is pretty good, but even with Robin Williams it wasn’t enough to save the film.

Cinematography: The special effects were good, but they are the focus rather than the characters or the plot, and that is to the film’s detriment. Still, they were pretty good.

Music: It fits the movie, and really that’s about it. Not very memorable either.

Overall: An enjoyable film but not one of the greatest ones that had Robin Williams in it.

For those who like: Comedy, Science Fiction, Fantasy, and a Great Cast.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, or a film not reaching its potential despite such a good cast.
