Hey all, I’m back with another film from the early ‘90s for this week’s Movie Monday. It’s Quigley Down Under.

Plot: The plot is good, but honestly this movie is totally carried by the cast. It follows the story of an American rifleman named Matthew Quigley in the 1860’s being hired by an Australian rancher for a job in the Outback territory of Australia. The interesting thing is that the job turns out to be a really bad one that Quigley refuses to do, which leads to a conflict between Quigley and the rancher, so it’s not exactly a typical Western movie.

Casting: Tom Selleck plays Quigley, and he does an awesome job. Most of the cast is very good at their roles, and it even has Alan Rickman portraying the villain Elliot Marston. That guy was just amazing whenever he portrayed villainous characters in movies.

Cinematography: The cinematography isn’t that amazing to be honest. But this wasn’t a film that called for it for the most part.

Music: It was mostly standard Western music which was good for the movie but not that memorable afterwards.

Overall: An okay movie, if only because seeing Alan Rickman play what is essentially a cowboy is eye catching, and Tom Selleck puts in another great performance as well.

For those who like: Westerns and Star-studded Casts.

Not for those who don’t like: Either of the above.
