Why no uodate on C++ engine for last 2 yrs?

Hello Fam,

I just noticed on github there is no update on GitHub - cocos2d/cocos2d-x: Cocos2d-x is a suite of open-source, cross-platform, game-development tools utilized by millions of developers across the globe. Its core has evolved to serve as the foundation for Cocos Creator 1.x & 2.x.
for past 2 years. Have we stopped supporting open source version and everything is closed sourced now in favour of creator? Apologies as i was away from community for past few years and wasn’t able to keep up with the latest updates.

We currently have a new version of Cocos2d-x C++ - Axmol , which is very impressive! It even supports WebGL 2.0. You can check it out here.

Due to some reasons, we have paused maintenance for Cocos2d-x, but it will remain open source and free.
Now you can use the Cocos Creator Engine to continue creating your games. Cocos Creator has more capabilities and advantages compared to Cocos2d-x.
You can learn more about it by checking out the product introduction and the user manual:

https://docs.cocos.com/creator/manual/en/

I remember previously when migration to cocos creator was planned, at that moment it was decided that cocos2d-x would always be maintained and would remain open source, only the bindings and cocos-creator editor version would be closed source, and it made a lot of sense, It came as a surprise that we have stopped maintaining one of GOAT opensource 2D engines out there.

Thanks @dragon0962 for pointing to the community-maintained engine, will check it out. I hope the installation steps remain the same for this version as well.

The original cocos2d-x repo has been branched to
GitHub - cocos/cocos-engine: Cocos simplifies game creation and distribution with Cocos Creator, a free, open-source, cross-platform game engine. Empowering millions of developers to create high-performance, engaging 2D/3D games and instant web entertainment.,
which is the framework for Cocos Creator. It’s still open source while under active development.
