Global game publisher CFK (headed by Chang-sig Koo) is proud to announce today (9/28) that it is releasing the new Nintendo Switch™ version of 2D horror action game Before The Night to the globe.
 
Before the Night, developed by solo Korean indie game developer Uneducated Game Studio, tells the story of a pet human fighting to survive in a world where human and animal roles have been reversed. Players must navigate the threats packed into this world where master is now pet and adventure to uncover the truths buried within the animal village.
 
Before the Night has been rated “Very Positive” since its release on Steam in July of 2022, proving the strength of its gameplay, and is now coming to the Nintendo Switch™ so that more gamers can experience all the fun packed within.
 
To get ready for the release, CFK has shared an official trailer for the Nintendo Switch™ version of Before the Night, opened pre-sales, and provided a playable demo for the game, all to raise the hype for the game. Specifically, with the release of the demo for Before the Night on Nintendo Switch™, the game has been getting even more rave reviews from players and content creators alike for its unique subject matter and fun gameplay.

Welcome to the animal village, a strange world where the roles of human and animal have been reversed. One day, with the unexplained passing of her rabbit owner Alice, human pet Lisa is forced to part ways with her loving master.
 
Lisa misses her departed master so dearly that she asks around about any possible way she might save Alice. Thankfully for her, Lisa hears of the Flowers of Life, the keys to saving her old master. On hearing the news, she sets out on an adventure to resurrect dear Alice.
 
"With all the kindness you showed me... I swear to repay you for every precious moment."

1) Dig up the secrets of the animal village
Protagonist Lisa enters the forbidden forest with her friends for some fun and games, only to be transported to a world where animals raise humans as pets or slaughter them. Gamers must take control of Lisa and venture into the various regions contained in this animal world.
 
During her adventure, Lisa learns about her past, the past of Alice, her master, and the truths behind the animal world. Ironically enough, each step closer Lisa gets to her goal, the more the animal world is plunged into chaos.
 
Before the Night was crafted in a genre similar to a Souls-lite game. Players may use given items in special ways, such as finding the proper items to move forward or using them to attack enemies. From normal difficulty and above, death results in the players losing their items and having to restart the stage.
 
2) Night and day, two different elements to properly utilize
The gameplay in Before the Night differs widely in terms of night and day. The playstyles required for the day sections and night sections are completely different, and players will have to adapt to the flowing day/night cycle as they play.
 
Day is generally peaceful. Lisa is able to strike up conversations with the residents of the animal village and explore the town in peace. The animals view Lisa like one might view an alley cat, and most of the animals will pay her no heed. Players can use the day to collect Flowers of Life and acquire other items. However, the Flowers of Life are protected with devices, such as locks and traps; and to release these devices, players will need to find the right tools.

As Lisa picks the Flowers of Life or removes the animals that stand in her way, the village grows slowly darker and night descends. The tension reaches its climax with the coming of the night. At night, the cute residents of the animal village lose their minds and turn into monsters; and Lisa must lure the monsters away with items such as carrots or meat, hide in the tall grass, or run from the horrendous creatures.
 
Night doesn’t fall with time, but can come quickly or slowly depending on playstyle. Gamers should take advantage of these two elements to make their way through the game in a manner that fits with their style.
 
Starting at Normal difficulty, the game introduces features of the Souls-lite genre, such as losing all items and restarting the stage on death.

Once night descends, the village fills with monsters.
To survive the night, Lisa must lure away the monsters or hide herself in the tall grass.
 
3) Acquire the tools necessary for collecting the Flowers of Life
The Flowers of Life, the ends to Lisa’s adventure, are guarded by the rabbits in the animal village. To protect their precious Flowers of Life, the rabbits have stored them behind various obstacles, such as locks and traps. To acquire the tools they’ll need, players will have to choose between two methods, bartering or using a few trusty hammers.
 
- Bartering: Give the rabbits a few fresh carrots to acquire keys or items to use as weapons. This is the best way to resolve things peacefully.
- Hammers: Rabbits love carrots, but players will sometimes find the animals less than cooperative. In these cases, it takes just a few hammers to get rid of the rabbits and acquire the tools necessary to continue. Of course, players should keep in mind that with every rabbit rid from the town, the darkness descends a little quicker.
 
4) A wide variety of stages and level designs with different themes
There are a total of six regions in Before the Night, including Hoppity Village, Turnip Market, Human Hospital, Fox Police Station, Entrail Tunnel, and Heart Lake. Each stage has a particular theme and level design, varying the tension and providing different sorts of fun.

- The Human World: The world where the humans live. In this world, humans are intelligent creatures that have the ability to communicate and walk on two feet. Here, animals are kept as livestock or pets. Lisa originally lived in the human world, but upon getting lost in the woods, she accidentally stumbled into the animal world.
 
- Hoppity Village: A village where a bunch of adorable bunnies live. This village is filled with the memories of Lisa and Alice.
 
- Turnip Market : A town with all sorts of shops, including a pet human supply store, a pet human hotel, a snail restaurant, and more. All the animals shopping at Turnip Market ran for the hills after hearing the horrible rumors of what happened at Hoppity Village.
 
- Human Hospital: A number of surgeries are carried out here on pet humans under the supervision of Dr. Holly Sheep, specialist in human pet treatment. The sheep doctors treat the sick human pets here. They use their excellent skills at surgery and tender bedside manner to do so, but they are rather cowardly.
 
This hospital is mostly known for spaying, neutering, and wiping the memories of human pets. The human pets who died from who-knows-what sort of surgeries have been laid out on the hospital beds. All of this is due to the sheep doctors having run away.
This is where Lisa had her memory wiped.
 
- Fox Police Department: All the fox fur and scattered dust creates a rather hazy atmosphere. The foxes use this as their garrison, dispatching through Entrail Tunnel whenever an incident erupts. This place also serves as a temporary shelter for human pets; but if a human pet isn’t claimed after thirty days, it’s labeled abandoned, melted down, and used to fertilize the Hearts of the Flowers.
 
- Entrail Tunnel: This is the gigantic thoroughfare used by the dispatched fox police. Every fox officer moves through this tunnel. It was fashioned out of human flesh and internal organs. Here, one will find a plethora of bloody red waterfalls and waterways. Visions of Lisa, having eaten flowers and been trapped in her friends’ memories, litter the area.
 
- Heart Lake: A place where the Hearts of the Flowers are gathered. Heart Lake is the place where all the human juices arrive after their journey through Entrail Tunnel from Fox Police Department. This is the place where the Hearts of the Flowers thrive on the nourishment contained within the juices and bits of discarded humans. The residents of the animal world believe that the souls of the departed gather inside these Hearts of the Flowers, and many animals hold their funerals here.
 
5) Featuring a high-quality sound design to increase the tension: Before the Night implements a unique system of sounds in order to heighten the terror. Once the Flowers of Life are picked or the darkness descends, the pitch and speed of the background music lower noticeably, allowing the player’s fear to tighten its grip. There is also an added feature that twists the background music as the darkness thickens.

1) Lisa: Our protagonist, venturing through this strange world in her red cape. After accidentally stumbling into this world, she was found and raised by the kind rabbit Alice as a human pet.
 
Then one day, Alice meets her mysterious demise, and Lisa, remembering all the kindness paid to her, sets out to revive her old master at any cost. Her obsession with bringing her caring master, Alice, back to life borders on fanatic.

2) Alice: Lisa’s kind owner, providing a home and caring for this poor girl who found herself in the animal world. She meets her demise, though the cause is unknown. Is there a chance Alice had her own secrets?

▲ Major characters
- Dr. Holly Sheep: She’s the one who examined Lisa when Alice plucked her from the forest. She erased the trauma of Lisa’s past with a memory removal treatment. She also helps the Fox Police Department with their euthanasia project as a side hustle.

- Aspersum II: King of the snail people. The snail people are intelligent organisms, but since they cannot speak the language of the other animals and are rather ugly, they’re eaten as food. The snail people are the staple food of the animal world. Aspersum II revolted against the animals to try to stop this oppression, but his rebellion was thwarted in a mere thirty minutes.

▲ Major items
- Flowers of Life: Essential entities within the animal world. The Flowers of Life supply the life force to all the plants and animals. Without the Flowers of Life, plants wither, and animals turn to monsters. Juice squeezed from the Flowers of Life is able to revive the dead.

- Anywhere Gate: This warps its user to another location. It needs magical energy to operate. If the magical energy is lacking, the magical button must be pressed to supply that energy.

- Hearts of the Flowers: This native flora of Heart Lake plays a key role in maintaining the animal world. Without the hearts, the flowers would all wilt, turning the animal world into a hellscape filled with monsters.
 
The roots of the Hearts of the Flowers have spread throughout the animal world. They supply the blood to the Flowers of Life that thrive throughout the animal world. The residents of the animal world believe that all the souls of departed animals gather in the Hearts of the Flowers, so there is a custom in the animal world for animals to hold funerals and bury the bodies of the departed nearby a Heart of the Flowers.
 
In reality, Hearts of the Flowers absorb the souls of the living things surrounding them, fusing them into a single entity. In the process of this fusion, the knowledge and emotions contained within those souls are combined. If destroyed, the Heart of the Flowers will spew out the melted mass of souls contained within.
