Hello. Do you think having a game programming YouTube channel can be useful as a portfolio? Like recreating game mechanics from existing games or creating new ones, and explaining my thoughts and decisions through the videos. Similar to Artstation for artists, but in this case for programming.

My own personal ability to communicate has improved significantly since I began this blog. The regular practice of posting to the blog has honed my skill at taking difficult, technical, and/or complex concepts and conveying them in an intuitive and understandable way.

Regarding your latest answer about optimizing games. Can you elaborate more on how the optimization gets to happen? Like ofcourse they do want to make their npcs look as good as they planned to so how do they optimize without reducing quality in general?

If we're optimizing the visuals specifically, then it's a question of what saves the most processing time. If you have the time and interest, I suggest looking at the #game optimization tag on this blog, since I've written at length about various means of optimization in past posts.

What happened to the blog for several days last week? It vanished for a time like a fanboy’s approval :-)

In the middle of last week, an attacker took control of my account and deleted my blog. I put in a service request and the blog was restored this past Sunday. I’ve taken steps to archive it and am looking into mirroring the blog on Wordpress or some similar blogging site just for the sake of redundancy.
