I had fallen in love with the original Gameboy version of the game in 1999, and it seemed obvious to me that however Greg wanted the core gameplay to work (sim, puzzle, or RPG), we had to learn from Pokémon 's incredible bestiary. The big influence I added was - of all things! And that was baked into the design from the beginning.
