What started as a two-week previz class to learn Unreal Engine’s 'Take Recorder' quickly transformed into a full-on action cinematic and, ultimately, Menace. The blueprint was already rigged with a Metahuman, and the riding physics seemed perfect for what I needed.

After splitting off the various components, I made a very simple rig consisting of a bunch of transforms with different pivots for the different components. It's much easier to set a rig or even an effect up at origin and then apply animation and world space transformations to it afterward.

In my opinion, this feature is rather useless and I don't think any mainstream 3D engine supports extra object pivots either. In game engines, for performance, vertices have, instead, a list of bones they are affected by and how much. The reasoning behind this is that animation is imported in game engines mostly from characters.

First you need Godot Engine's "Better" Collada exporter for Blender. Has a bone based rig. This is a surprisingly common question, not just for Godot but for most 3D exporting and importing from one program to another especially game engines. For Maya and 3DS Max you can use OpenCollada.
