Hi don’t quote me on this. as far as I know it was just clean-up. they wanted to remove extramental from the cocos2dx library and AudioEngine was in extramental stage to put in to the next version an seem to be a bit more advanced than SimpleAudioEngine. so I guess its was just progression. but dropping to 3.17.2 you can used either version. cocos2dx version 4 has removed extramental and has METAL framework for apple.
